{"id":1213,"date":"2012-10-19T16:12:30","date_gmt":"2012-10-19T20:12:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mirthwerx.com\/?p=1213"},"modified":"2013-02-25T21:57:59","modified_gmt":"2013-02-26T02:57:59","slug":"art-side-of-things-sushi-world-customer-designs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mirthwerx.com\/index.php\/blog\/2012\/10\/19\/art-side-of-things-sushi-world-customer-designs\/","title":{"rendered":"Art side of things: Sushi World customer designs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Sushi\u00a0restaurant game cant exist without Sushi loving customers come in to\u00a0challenge\u00a0your Sushi making skills. \u00a0Sushi World&#8217;s stage is set in many different countries around the globe, and I need to come up with lots of different customers for each stage. \u00a0In this post I am going to show step by step how I design them.<\/p>\n<p>First of all, finding a good model is the key, you need lots of different faces, races, ages, professions&#8230; the more divers the better, think of casting for a movie, you need faces with different\u00a0characteristics, in our case it also need to\u00a0represent\u00a0the country.<\/p>\n<p>In this post, i am using my daughter as the\u00a0example\u00a0and she will be one of the customer in the China stage. (dont worry i asked her and have her permission before i post her picture :))<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mirthwerx.com\/2012\/10\/19\/art-side-of-things-sushi-world-customer-designs\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1214\" title=\"bluerough\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/mirthwerx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/bluerough.jpg\" height=\"450\" width=\"386\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.mirthwerx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/bluerough.jpg 386w, http:\/\/www.mirthwerx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/bluerough-257x300.jpg 257w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 386px) 100vw, 386px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Once we are happy with our model, is time to put it on the drawing paper; I usually would take some creative licence to\u00a0exaggerate from the photo to\u00a0achieve\u00a0the cartoon look. \u00a0After all, Sushi World&#8217;s art style is very colorful, playful not super realistic. \u00a0So after few mints i got my rough drawing down. (see below)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mirthwerx.com\/sushiworld\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1215\" title=\"rough\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/mirthwerx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/rough.jpg\" height=\"450\" width=\"386\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.mirthwerx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/rough.jpg 386w, http:\/\/www.mirthwerx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/rough-257x300.jpg 257w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 386px) 100vw, 386px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I did my modification at this stage until I am happy with the drawing, then onto the inking stage (yes, ink, I do came from comic industry background, is the old hobbit I can&#8217;t shake off :P) \u00a0I inked it with 1.0 black ink pen first, then ink the outline with 3.0 pen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mirthwerx.com\/sushiworld\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1216\" title=\"link\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/mirthwerx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/link.jpg\" height=\"450\" width=\"386\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.mirthwerx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/link.jpg 386w, http:\/\/www.mirthwerx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/link-257x300.jpg 257w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 386px) 100vw, 386px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>wait till the ink is dry, then took a white eraser lightly erase the blue rough lines. \u00a0If you cant get them all off, don&#8217;t worry the reason of using blue pencil is that B\/W scanner and copier wont pick up blues. \u00a0 So, now the picture is scanned and imported into Photoshop.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mirthwerx.com\/sushiworld\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1217\" title=\"clear_line\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/mirthwerx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/clear_line.jpg\" height=\"450\" width=\"386\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.mirthwerx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/clear_line.jpg 386w, http:\/\/www.mirthwerx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/clear_line-257x300.jpg 257w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 386px) 100vw, 386px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In Photoshop, you need to delete the white background and you will be left with only the bold black lines, there are many different ways to achieve that effect; for me I like to use the option under the &#8220;Channels&#8221; tab\u00a0method. \u00a0After you get rid of the white background,\u00a0\u00a0save it as the line layer, then create another layer below it and start coloring. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mirthwerx.com\/sushiworld\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1218\" title=\"color1\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/mirthwerx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/color1.jpg\" height=\"450\" width=\"386\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.mirthwerx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/color1.jpg 386w, http:\/\/www.mirthwerx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/color1-257x300.jpg 257w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 386px) 100vw, 386px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Block out each area with Lasso tool(*make sure take off Anti-alias) and color in the base color first, and adjust or paint bucket the color till you are happy with it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mirthwerx.com\/sushiworld\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1219\" title=\"color2\" alt=\"\" http:\/\/www.mirthwerx.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/color2-257x300.jpg 257w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 386px) 100vw, 386px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally add another layer for your high-lights
